How can I build a driveway myself?
I’m seriously considering upgrading to a resin surface, but I’m worried about the state of my current driveway. It’s mostly old tarmac with a few cracks, and I’ve been told that the quality of the top layer is only as good as the foundation beneath it. Do I need to dig the whole thing up and start from scratch with a fresh concrete pad, or can this material be laid directly over what I already have? I want to avoid unnecessary excavation costs if the existing base is structurally sound.

You’re absolutely right to focus on the sub-base, as movement underneath is the primary cause of surface cracking in any paving project. In many cases, you can install a Resin Driveway directly onto existing tarmac or concrete, provided the surface is cleaned, degreased, and treated with a high-strength primer to ensure maximum adhesion. If there are minor cracks, they can often be reinforced with a fiber-mesh membrane during the installation process to prevent them from reflecting through to the new decorative finish.
