Engineering the future of steam in Yorkshire
Precision engineered by CTL Seal in Sheffield, we're re-creating a BR Standard Class 6 Steam locomotive using 21st century engineering. Our aim is to re-create the original engine, but make significant improvements to it's overall performance. Our new locomotive will be:
> Cleaner & Greener
> More Powerful
> Greater efficiency
Find out how we're achieving this...

2026 Open Day
Saturday 11th April - 10am -4pm
Come and see the Locomotive in all it's glory at our Locomotive Works, located at CTL Seal, Butterthwaite Lane, Ecclesfield, Sheffield S35 9WA (for directions see below). Everyone welcome, members and non-members alike. Lots to see and do and we may even have the BBC filming! We'd like to get lots of new members, old and young signed up, so we look forward to seeing you all.
** Latest Project Update**
Following on from William Cook donating 6 driving
wheels to the value of £140,000, the next phase of work is underway for the coupled wheels. Roller bearings, axles and tyres have now been ordered. Design work onthe roller bearing cannon axleboxes is nearing completion.
The hind covers for the cylinders have been cast and
machined - these feature the support for the front of the slidebars recently installed on 71000 'Duke of Gloucester'. An order has also been placed for the casting of the front cylinder covers.

Weekly progress update
A key job is to make sure that the cab roof fits properly. At the front and back sides, the roof is bolted to the cab frames. On the sides, the roof is bolted to the top cab window runner. First we fitted the cab runners to the side sheets using templates to ensure that they were set at the right height. You can see the brass window runners on the left and right of the photo above the window openings. Today's job was to refit the roof which is in 2 halves. Here, Steve, Roger and Jim are using a podger to get the holes lined up so they can get a bolt in. Next week, we will start fitting temporary bolts, starting at the centre, to bolt the roof to the front and back frames. We will then be able to start drilling the bolt holes to fasten the sides of the roof to the window runners.
