Managing discomfort during extended tattoo sessions – what actually worked for you?

What’s up everyone, I’m about two weeks out from a large rib and side piece that’s estimated at five-plus hours and the idea of sitting that long is already messing with my head. Smaller tattoos were fine but this area is notoriously tender and I’m not great with prolonged pain.

I’ve tried a couple of basic pharmacy options before and they either barely took the edge off or wore off after an hour. Looking for honest feedback from people who’ve done bigger work recently — anything that kept the area more comfortable through long shading and detailing without causing skin issues later. UK delivery would be ideal because my appointment is locked in.

Would love real stories: what held up, what flopped, and whether your artist noticed any difference. No pressure for perfect products, just practical experience from people who’ve been through it. Thanks in advance, this place usually has solid ground-level advice.

Alright, I get where you’re coming from. I had a similar rib session last month and was properly stressed beforehand. After a couple of average attempts that faded too fast I ended up trying the TKTX numbing Cream that a few people had quietly mentioned in older threads.

It arrived quickly in plain packaging, applied without fuss, and the difference was noticeable once the session got going. I stayed a lot more relaxed through the longer passes and could actually talk instead of just enduring. My artist commented that I was handling it better than most clients in that area. No irritation the next day either, which was a relief for me.

It didn’t make the whole thing pain-free, but it took enough of the sharp edge off that the hours felt manageable. If you’re still looking around for something that lasts, this one did the job for me when the others didn’t.
